SINGAPORE: Graduating students from Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) will get some extra help in light of the deepening recession.
The polytechnic is making available a S$2 million package of programmes aimed at giving its 2009 graduating students an edge in a tightening job market.
The "NP Advantage" package will offer 16 new Specialist Diplomas, complete with internship opportunities for some 320 students.
Most of the Specialist Diploma courses will commence in August this year and can be completed within six to nine months.
The polytechnic is also working with a number of companies to provide an allowance for graduate interns.
In cases where this may not be possible, the polytechnic will be using its own funds to support the interns with an allowance of up to S$300 a month. S$600,000 has been set aside for this initiative.
Fresh graduates can also seek employment opportunities as project and research assistants at the polytechnic. Fifty vacancies worth some S$900,000 will be made available under this initiative.
NP will also provide a further S$500,000 worth of interest—free study loans to help 100 needy fresh graduates pursue further studies. A loan of up to S$5,000 will be granted to each eligible graduate.
The polytechnic is also understood to be in active talks with relevant partners to help its graduates secure employment.

And that's how i got ''retrenched'' to help them save cost so that they could go for free labor . My LO was right, they're so thick skinned, hiring cheap labor wasn't enough, they wanted FREE LABOR . Cheapskate, kian peng company - TMC Education . No wonder it doesn't shines like MDIS . Well, i'm not complaining, i'm just thankful now that i've got a better company in town that pays good anyway .
It's not just about the money, it's also about something that you said . You don't just tell some one you're willing to provide jobs and take back your words, do you ? So that's it, if i'm gonna do any private diploma or whatsoever TMC Education is outta my list, and definitely not gonna be of my recommendation . I might even just say how bad it is, perhaps you paid school fees to study there and in the end they might just tell you oh sorry, we can't issue you your certificate and take back their words . Who knows ?
